Keynote: New Directions in Personalization – from Personalised Conversational AI to new approaches to training Personalised Learning Systems Prof. Vincent Wade, ADAPT SFI Research Centre, Dept of Computer Science and Statistics, Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin, Ireland Abstract: Personalization and Adaptive technology have been quite successful in many application areas such as personalized customer care, personalized online educational content and recommenders. This keynote presentation will explore how personalization and user modeling technology has the potential to enhance other areas such as dialogue systems (agents), nudging (behavioral) systems and multidimensional learner categorization. The keynote will explore recent (learner) knowledge tracing and simulation approaches which may mitigate the need for large dataset for training neural based personalization systems. Short Bio: Vincent Wade is Director of the ADAPT Centre for Digital Media Technology and holds the Professorial Chair of Computer Science (Est. 1990) in School of Computer Science and Statistics, Trinity College Dublin as well as a personal Chair in Artificial Intelligence. His research focuses on intelligent systems, AI and Personalisation in application areas such as (online) Education, Games and Precision Medicine. He was awarded Fellowship of Trinity College for his contribution to research and has published over three hundred and fifty scientific papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences. In 2018 he was awarded TCD Provost Innovation Award, the highest accolade the university can bestow for international research impact. As Director of ADAPT, Vincent heads a world leading research Centre (across eight collaborating universities) and comprising over 300 researchers focused on digital media technology (text, video, speech, image, VR/AR) and AI. ADAPT pioneers research in media analytics, advanced machine learning, machine translation, media personalization, speech & multimodal interaction and ethics & privacy in media. Vincent is the co-founder of a successful TCD spin-out company called EmpowerTheUser which specializes in video based adaptive immersive learning and simulation technology. Professor Wade also won two European Language Label Award for innovation in Game based Language Learning Technology (2010) and Language Learning via problem solving (2020). He also holds multiple patents and invention disclosures in the areas of personalisation and digital content technologies. |
